Scrapbooking Memories Black and White plus One competition

I was once again thrilled to be selected in the top 20 traditional layouts for the Scrapbooking Memories Black & White + One Layout Competition that was judged at the Brisbane Papercraft Expo. Unfortunately I didn't win, but am super excited to make it at all.  Funnily enough, my entry from last year here fit this year's criteria as well!

Here is my entry for this year, of Kiara taken at Warrnambool in January.

Something different with Simple Stories Summer Fresh

I love the June sketch at Sketches with a Twist and luckily they provided a tutorial as well! This was one layout that nearly didn't even get a photo or a title on it - I love the background so much. The twist is to use fabric on the layout, and I have fabric on the denim flower and the covered button.

Here is the sketch:

These "cathedral windows" are not nearly as hard as I thought (or they look), check out the tutorial here and give it a go.Great way to use up smaller scraps of double sided patterned paper, too.

I am loving the colours and patterns in the Simple Stories Summer Fresh range too, just beautiful. This was one great kit from My Scrapbook Nook (as always!).

Never Change...Bird is the word

The word for the June challenge at Bird is the Word is "CHANGE". I used the new June kit from The Scrapbook Nook and came up with this one:

Sorry the pic is not the best but it is a little dull and overcast here, may take a better one if it brightens up!

Experimenting with different scrappy styles

Here is an interesting comparison...I have been trawling the net finding different challenges to get my scrapping started. I found lots. One (which I missed the deadline for - doh!) was to scrap with the theme "Royal" to coincide with the Queen's diamond jubilee etc etc. I used the same pic of Alexa and decided to use up some older papers, and chuck a heap of flowers on it. One thing with getting kits is I end up with lots and lots of flowers, as they usually don't end up on many of my layouts!

Another challenge is the one over at Aussie Scrap Source for their Readers Challenge Design feature, this week on Contrast / Visual Hierarchy. They have a sketch from Page Maps to follow, and I used some of my fantastic prize win from Pink Paislee.

I will show you this layout first, as it is definitely more my style and without doubt my favourite:

And to compare:

For me, it's the colours, the busyness, those flowers...but I guess it's good to step outside your comfort zone once in a while - even if it is just to remind you why you were there in the first place!

What do you think?

Things with wings

I found a new challenge blog called Southern Girls Challenge and their Challenge # 46 is "Things with wings". I have been sorting through my photos (well, some of them anyway) and found this gorgeous photo of Alexa all dressed up for Halloween (she and Kiara decided to dress up!!).

Washi tape love

I got a delivery of a few new washi tapes the other day, and was inspired by the gorgeous colours to create a "just because" layout (a rare thing, these days!).

I love these colours on the layout, the yellow just pops out with the grey and black. And a cute photo of Alexa never hurts either!

June Once Upon A ... Sketch

The June challenge at Once Upon A...Sketch is to create a layout using the sketch and with the theme of birthdays. I am not even sure I can even recognise the sketch in there anymore, but I promise that's where I started!

I used one of my favourite birthday photos ever, of Alexa twirling in the bubbles on her 5th birthday in her new leotard with her party hat on.

A mad June sketch

The sketch challenge is up for June at the Mad About Scrappin' facebook page - check it out here. This one had me puzzled for a bit, although I like my white space it didn't seem quite balanced to me so I had to add a little cluster on the top left.

Here is my layout using some pics of Alexa riding her bike without training wheels:

And here is the sketch. You can see I changed a few bits and pieces, with one less photo - but I still managed to incorporate the circular elements I think.
